Is a Private Assessment Right for me?

Whilst we cannot help you decide which route is best for you personally, we can look at the differences in approach to help you make an informed decision.

You can access free autism and ADHD assessments through the NHS. For this you will need a referral from your GP, other health professional or a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator from school.

NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidance states that people shouldn’t have to wait longer than 13 weeks to be seen, however, NHS data shows that 86% of people have been waiting longer than that.

Families and individuals on the waiting list can feel in limbo, unable to access the support they need in a timely manner. This can lead to difficulties in mental health, feelings of limited self-identity and feeling ‘different’ and not knowing why.

With Portland Assessments, you do not need a referral, simply contact us and we will start the process as soon as you are ready. We aim to complete assessments within 13 weeks from when you initially got in touch.

We are a small team, so you will get to know your assessor really well and you will have one point of contact every step of the way through the process.

At Portland Assessments, we offer private assessments with limited waiting lists. Our experienced specialists take a personal approach to each assessment, ensuring that you or you or your child receive the most accurate, comprehensive evaluation. We provide clear feedback, actionable recommendations, and support to help you navigate the next steps with confidence.

The Importance of a Personal Approach
When it comes to autism and ADHD assessments, one size does not fit all. Everyone experiences these conditions differently, and a personalised approach to assessment is essential for understanding their unique needs and strengths.

Tailored to You
At Portland Assessments, we believe that everyone is unique. That’s why we take the time to tailor our assessments to the person we’re working with. Whether a child or an adult, we use a variety of assessment tools that allow us to gain a thorough understanding of their behaviours, strengths, challenges, and history.

We are happy to use neuro-affirming adjustments including the environment your assessment takes place, opportunities for breaks if needed, sensory items to support anxiety, everything will be led by you. We pride ourselves in inclusive practices and you will be valued and accepted throughout. This includes BAME and LGBTQIA+ experiences and explore important aspects of your identity and how these may or may not relate to autism.

Our assessors are aware of traits such as PDA, masking and camouflaging and that autism can present differently in females and will be aware of this throughout the assessments.

In-Depth Interviews and Observations
Our approach includes detailed interviews with family members, teachers, or colleagues, and we conduct thorough observations in different environments. By understanding the full spectrum of your or your child’s life, we can identify patterns and provide insights that lead to a more accurate diagnosis.

Ongoing Support
Our commitment doesn’t end with the assessment. We provide comprehensive feedback and follow-up support to ensure you have the resources and knowledge you need to move forward. Whether it’s educational advice, therapy referrals, or workplace support recommendations, we offer practical guidance tailored to your unique situation.

Conclusion
The personal approach at Portland Assessments ensures that you receive an assessment that goes beyond the basics. We work closely with you every step of the way, ensuring that your experiences are understood and valued, and that the next steps are clear and achievable.
